Splitting Rules
| Pair | Action | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| A-A | ALWAYS Split | Two chances at 21 from a bad hand of 12 |
| 8-8 | ALWAYS Split | 16 is the worst hand; two 8s have potential |
| 10-10 | NEVER Split | 20 is already excellent; do not risk it |
| 5-5 | NEVER Split | 10 is a great doubling hand; two 5s are weak |
| 4-4 | Hit (or Split vs 5-6) | 8 is decent to hit from; two 4s are weak |
| 2-2, 3-3 | Split vs dealer 2-7 | Low pairs improve when split against weak dealer |
| 6-6 | Split vs dealer 2-6 | 12 is bad; two 6s have upside vs weak dealer |
| 7-7 | Split vs dealer 2-7 | 14 is weak; two 7s can reach 17 each |
| 9-9 | Split vs 2-6, 8-9; Stand vs 7, 10, A | 18 is good enough vs 7/10/A; split for more vs weak |
Insurance: Why You Should NEVER Take It
When the dealer shows an Ace, you are offered "insurance" at 2:1 odds. This seems protective but is mathematically terrible. The probability of the dealer having blackjack is about 30.8%. At 2:1 odds, you need a 33.3% probability to break even. Since 30.8% < 33.3%, insurance has a house edge of approximately 7.7%, making it one of the worst bets in the casino. Professional blackjack players never take insurance under any circumstances.
Blackjack FAQ
In terms of house edge, yes. With perfect basic strategy, the edge is only 0.5%. Only Video Poker with optimal play (0.46%) is lower.
Absolutely. There is no penalty for consulting a chart during online play. Using the chart correctly reduces the house edge from ~2% (guessing) to 0.5% (optimal).
A natural blackjack (Ace + 10-value card) pays 3:2, meaning a 1,000 rupee bet wins 1,500 rupees. Avoid tables that pay 6:5 for blackjack as this significantly increases the house edge.

The house edge means the casino profits over the long term regardless of short-term results. Track your spending, take regular breaks, and never chase losses.
